Bike Trails to Explore in Austin

Austin, TX is known for celebrating sustainability and encouraging habits that protect the planet. Not surprisingly, it is one of the most bike-friendly cities in the nation. With a robust network of bike lanes and trails, it’s easy and safe for cyclists to get around. Check out our cumulative list of favorite area bike trails!
 
  • Lady Bird Lake Hike & Bike Trail: This 10-mile loop around Lady Bird Lake is one of the most popular bike trails in the city. It truly brings the best of both worlds together, offering beautiful views of the city skyline just steps away from the water. It is also mostly flat, making it suitable for all skill levels.
  • Barton Creek Greenbelt: Experience this 13.8-mile out-and-back trail. Considered moderately challenging, the route is open year-round and the trail is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.
  • Walnut Creek Trail: This mix of terrain spans 7.3 miles and includes rocky sections and creek crossings. It's great for intermediate riders who want a bit of a challenge. It extends from Govalle Park to the Walnut Creek Sports Park at Johnny Morris Road and Daffan Lane.
  • Veloway Trail: This 3.1-mile trail is a great option for beginners and families with young children. Completely paved and closed to motorized traffic, this trail is both safe and peaceful.
  • Brushy Creek Trail: Located in Cedar Park, just north of Austin, this great trail is perfect for beginners and families alike, with mostly flat terrain and several playgrounds and picnic areas along the way. It spans 6.75 miles.
